DOST REGION VI with VKMGE for Charcoal Briquetting

DOST REGION VI with VAN KESSEL MACKAY GREEN ENERGY for CHARCOAL BRIQUETTING

The DOST Region VI invited the Van Kessel Mackay Green Energy to bring the Charcoal briquetting knowledge to the two barangays of Aklan. The Tangalan, Aklan and Brgy. Motag in Malay Aklan.

Ben Hur Mobo owns hectares of land planted with mahogany trees. They prune the trees regularly and the trimmings contributes to solid waste. The owner wants to acquire the knowledge, skills, and technology of charcoal briquette production in order to convert such waste into charcoal products. At the same time, The councils of Barangay Motag are assisting the farmers, jobless men, and housewives in their barangay to gain additional income and improve their skills in charcoal production. The current livelihood of the identified participants is traditional charcoal making and rice farming.

Through this training, they acquired practical knowledge and skills in producing charcoal briquettes with higher practical thermal value and much lower ash content than charcoals made from the traditional method. They are currently using coconut shells as charcoal.

We compared the Bana Grass and other raw materials from carbonization up to the finished product on how it’s different from the others and it was amusing.

We taught the basics of Charcoal making to the participants and later on, we let them do it on their own. It was a fun training and seminar yet full of knowledge. Both of us learned from each other with this.
